Kelly Slater, on tour or off?

So, we all know Slater is now surfing the first contest of the year, but is he going to stay on tour? Who knows! Slater doesn't even know whether or not he will stay on tour after the first event. It may take a win or maybe a major loss to invigorate him to stay on tour. I guess we will have to just wait and see. The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover starts tomorrow, so tune in and find out what Slater will do. Here is a little clip of the champ talking about his future plans.

Whale Tales

The ocean is not just all waves and surfing. We have all heard about the whale poaching and even probably seen the show on Discovery. Personally I love all the creatures of the sea, even though some bit or sting, they all play their role in our oceans in some way. Once on a trip to the Bahamas by boat, we encountered a pod of dolphins. One of the most magical experiences that I have ever had; Jumping in the water and looking around to see about 15 wild dolphin's in their own environment with the clearest water you could imagine. This day I realized the ocean is not just something with water and waves, but an environment that serves as an entire home, one that is not covered by roads, buildings, and concrete jungles. Our biggest fear is losing our oceans to oil drilling, trash, pollution, and anything else that could hurt Mother Nature.
Many surfers and others that enjoy the ocean love fishing, spear fishing and other joy's from the ocean. We should always watch what we take out and not to take to much. The ocean does replenish itself and this is why there are regulations to which we can take from the sea. We all should cherish what we get from the ocean and what we do in the ocean such as surfing. With out clean water we could not surf, with out fish we would have less food, so lets look after what the world provides so we can enjoy the creatures of the world.

Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast

The first event on the ASP this year will see none other than Kelly Slater, 10 time ASP world champion, attending and surfing the first event. Slater said he does not know whether he will surf any other events in the year, but we all know that Slater sometimes changes his mind. The last time he said he was retiring and not surfing the events anymore Slater actually won another world title. Among Slater, there are many other title contenders on tour this year.

Some others on tour that have plenty of talent and potential to win a world title are Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Julian Wilson, Jordy Smith, Josh Kerr and a few others that could slip by at any time. Parkinson has never secured a world title, but has been close enough to taste it. Last year Parkinson sustained a injury to his foot and missed out on the most of the ASP events. Parkinson stated, "The way I’m feeling at the moment, I’m going to paddle out for my last heat of the year at Pipe even hungrier than I was when I paddled out for my first heat at Snapper." With this statement we can all know that Parko will be charging harder than years past seeing that he still hasn't grabbed that ASP world tour title. This year has many top pros gunning for the title, many for there first and others for yet another to add to the collection. We all should be in store for a very competitive year and hopefully no one walking away with the title.
