New Age Surfing and Style

It's really amazing what surfers are trying and doing on waves today. There are more variations of airs, turns, or any other maneuver you could think of. It's getting harder to compete against these young kids at your local break as they just keep thinking up new ways to do a grab or throw the fins out. When I got into surfing airs were not looked at as the huge maneuver or at least not yet. Watching the old Momentum surf videos and wanting to impersonate guys like Pat O'Connell and Rob Machado, with their super smooth styles and huge turns, It makes it hard to try to change our own style that you have developed through the years and have spent trying to do something completely different. Although there are many times we all try our airs now and again, it's becoming harder to impersonate the new age surfer that blast huge or crazy airs on almost every wave.
Everyone has their style and everyone enjoys how they surf, what makes surfing such a great sport is that surfing can show our own true personality without even saying a word. If you’re smooth, then usually you’re a calm person who likes to enjoy riding the wave and just let their surfing do the talking. If you’re aggressive, then you may be someone who is very competitive and has a lot of energy out of the water. At times we could be both, sometimes neither, but we still are different then anyone in the water. So go surf, and show your personality off!

Surfing as a Lifestyle

For some reason many people characterize surfers as bums or druggies with no ambitions and much more. This has been a stamp that has been put on most of us when telling someone that we surf or we are a surfer. I think this is completely untrue and is getting proved wrong everyday by many surfers around the world. Surfers have started charity's, huge company's, and even going to college. How about Kelly Slater? He has won 10 world titles. Thats more than any other athlete on the planet just so you know. He compares to Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth or any other sports great that you can think of. Surfers have become not only huge icons to many, but even managers at major company's. You integrate surfing into your life with learning to respect the ocean and nature, which leads to a greater respect for the world. All in all surfing can lead to a greater respect of mankind and people you meet every day. Take a look at this video and see if you would want to be categorized as a surfer. I once read, "You either fall in love with surfing or you never touch a board again". Anyone can become a surfer, but do you want to live and breath surfing for the rest of your life, because this is what happens when you ride your first wave?

First Post

This will be a very fun blog. I will be covering all types of surfing with videos, photos, links, music and much more. If you enjoy the beach and the ocean this blog will even interest you. There could be post on how the local beaches are being affected or where the best sandbar is right now. I will post swell forecast along with whether forecast that way you will have the best prediction on which days will be the perfect beach day or surf. I know that for us surfers sometimes we don't mind a little rain or storms, especially here in Florida. When we close in on summer I will also give you some places that could be your best bet for a little summer get away. Since it's still winter and with hopes of some cold fronts on the way, enjoy this little video of some fun yet cold surf.
